15 april to 30 may : “Silk roses at Villandry” (Roses de soie à Villandry)

Brigitte Chappaz is passionate about precious antique silks that she thrifts in second-hand shops. She skilfully embroiders them, creating motifs, large-scale tapestries, small tableaux or even bound books. Patiently but always passionately bent over her work, time flies by!

Nature always holds the leading role. Embroidered onto different pieces of silk painted to create the background, roses, butterflies and wild roses are highlighted with antique beads.

Brigitte Chappaz’s embroideries are presented in the exhibition gallery on the second floor of the château from 15 April to 30 May. Her new creations based on Villandry’s roses, which particularly decorate the arbours and squares of the vegetable garden, are given pride of place.

The embroiderers from the Conservatoire du Patrimoine de la Broderie de Touraine et ses Dérivés association are joining with Brigitte Chappaz’s exhibition to present their age-old know-how from 1 to 10 May. You will be able to discover cutwork embroidery, its techniques and its history: learn all the ins and outs of dotted Swiss, openwork, twists and snags! A beautiful tribute to our Touraine heritage, which began around 1870 on the banks of the Loire.
